Mr Seah Kian Peng, MP for Braddell Heights, (Marine Parade GRC) has assembled a team of 10 Members of Parliament, including three Nominated MPs, to work on a Bill to amend the Maintenance of Parents Act (MPA). Mr Seah, who chairs the Government Parliamentary Committee for Community Development, Youth and Sports, said his team is a diverse mix of people with experience in family issues.


The team members are:

  • Mr Sam Tan Chin Siong (Tanjong Pagar GRC)
  • Ms Mildred Tan (NMP)
  • Mr Viswa Sadasivan (NMP)
  • Mr Laurence Wee Yoke Thong (NMP)

Mr Seah will establish focus groups to gather input from various people to ensure the amended Act will meet the needs of the elderly parents as well as the general community.


The Maintenance of Parents Act was established in 1995 to enable elderly parents to seek help from a legal tribunal if their children do not support them financially. As part of Mr Seah's desire to involve the community in amending the Act, this Web Site was established to collect input and comments from concerned citizens. All are encouraged to submit their comments and suggestions.


These comments and suggestions will be taken into consideration and will become part of the Private Member's Bill were appropriate.
